Since the restauration in 1964 the former monastery church of Sulzburg is one of the re-discovered particularity of the "Markgraeflerland".
The small steeple was built in the 11th century and is one of the eldest in south west Germany. Some of the wooden parts were just discovered to be from a tree that was cut down in winter of 996.
The soft light, romanian style bends, simple columns, the hall of the year 1309, the wooden ceiling of the year 1510, the ornamental paintings and remainings of old frescos – all that gives the impression of timelessness and inspires in a very special way.
Besides services there are also concerts which are well known as musical events far beyond the borders of Sulzburg.
Present history – the former synagog of the year 1822 which now offers interesting exhibitions and events.
Not far away: the jewish cemetary from the 16th century. No visitors on jewish holidays.
The rural district "Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald", the town of Sulzburg and the association "Former Synagog Sulzburg e.V." organize the events in the synagog. The synagog is open each first and last Sunday of a month between 4 and 6pm. More information at ++49 7634 56 00 35.
